Desert Mood

Hey guys!

I’m baaaack. Yes, after a bit of a hiatus, I’m back at it again. To be honest, I wasn’t feeling too inspired but that’s not the case anymore. So, let’s get into this fun desert inspired fashion post!

Joshua Tree is the perfect for any southwestern outfit so I really played it up. I wanted the backdrop to be the focus and do all the talking when it came to color so I kept my outfits in a simple color pallet: Black & white.

Black Look:

I’m really into the all black look…even if it is in the high 90s. Practical? Nah. Kickass? Yes! Here’s how you can rock the all black look without looking boring. (Also, any of these tips can apply to an all-white outfit):

1)      Vary fabrics & textures: Nothing is more boring than an all-black cotton outfit. I opted for a black sheer Maxi with a side slit, a black lace bodysuit & black leather bootie.

2)      Don’t drown yourself in black: What I mean is that yes, black may flatter anyone’s body but you can’t forget to loose your shape. Find items that accentuate your favorite features. For me, I used a studded belt to cinch in my waist.

3)      Add Interest with accessories: Like I mentioned above, I accessorized the look with a black studded double buckle belt to add interest to my waist. I also wore silver dangle feather earrings to play up the “theme” I was going for. Lastly, I added a simple black hat.

White Look:

I fell in-love with this white dress but it’s far from being plain. Simple, yes. Plain, no. This linen Free People was super lightweight & breathable during the hot desert weather. The cutout was the star of the show. Cutouts can allow you to accentuate your most flattering features without showing too much skin. Plus, they can be super flattering and instantly adds interest to any dress.

I wanted to add a pop of color when it came to accessorizing but still keep to the theme I had going on so I went with this Free People turquoise beaded layered necklace and matching gold metal hoop earrings (still very popular). Not much has to go into shoes when they don’t really show but I went with my brown gladiator sandals.
